JY&A 1st Art Salon in 2020 A special event for St. Valentine’s Day

Time By Richard Garet (New York, USA) Feb.8 - Mar. 15, 2020 J. Yuan & Associates, Upper East Side Manhattan (NY, USA)

Time kills. Time heals. Time is a precious gift we offer to our loved ones. May all of us have a beautiful and memorable time with our loved one on St. Valentine’s Day!

Flamboyant lights, satin colors, fractal patterns, unseen memories. Richard Garet (b 1972 in Montevideo, Uruguay) depicts time, the eternal subject in art history as well as in our contemporary lives with more than twenty pieces emerged from a complex photographic process based on a computer algorithm, combining Dan Flavin-inspired light art with the tradition of geometric abstraction in the painting.

Calm, focus, methodical, and extremely organized and detail-oriented, watching Garet working on the installation of his artworks felt a long process of meditation. He is never in a rush. He takes a lot of time to think, to calculate, to weight the pros and the cons before putting his fingers on the wall. He works more like a scientist than an artist. His cool vibes make people believe that every inches his fingers move on the wall must come out of the best and the rightest decision. It was a lot of time consuming and laboring to hang all the works on the wall, although the entire salon is about how to stop, record, and visualize time - so ephemeral yet so memorable. Looking forward to opening our salon this Saturday!

About the Artist

As one of the most talented and active contemporary artists in New York City, Richard Garet, the key figure of JY&A Feb Salon is not to be neglected. Who is Richard Garet, what does he do? In a formal version: Richard Garet works with sound and visual arts. His materials emerge from ontological investigations of background noise and the decadence and-decay of technological utilities. Garet seeks to invert the normative function of background noise from unconscious status to active presence. The images and objects in his work stem from processes and experimentations applied to both outmoded and current technological media that emulate situations that translate material source into abstractions. His works embrace the objectification of the ordinary, repurposed technologies, transposition, articulation of space, nuances of perception, and extended techniques applied to time-based practice. Such creations, both conceptual in origin and experimental, embody contemporary life as a filtered experience. Garet emphasizes two notions from this experience that inform his work; debris from constant cultural bombardment and the experience of commodification, both being considered by Garet to be sensory overload. Garet finds further inspiration from observing isolated situations of everyday life and from interactions with found materials that explore further possibilities of automation, discarded utility, function-and-defunctionalization, commodity, and environment. Richard Garet has exhibited and performed with many reputed institutions in the world, including Galerie Burster (Berlin), CIFO Collection (Florida), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Julian Navarro Projects (New York), San Francesco MoMA (San Francesco), Issue Project Room (New York), among others. His works have been widely collected by private, institutional, and corporate collectors worldwide. Out of our respect for the collectors, their information is not to be revealed publicly.
